Al Walsh’s Week 3 NFL Picks

I like making picks- it’s fun and I know what the hell I’m doing. Last year, I went with maybe four or five picks every Sunday but this year I’m loving everything I see. For some reason I’m horrible in the 14A Experts League, but in my own personal segment, I can do no wrong. We’re off to a good start through two weeks so let the gooood times roll….

TENNESSEE -3 over San Diego

The Chargers have played well over their heads the last two weeks, so I see a let-down game coming as they play their second east coast game in two weeks. Tennessee has shown they are tough as they physically dominated the Steelers and then went toe-to-toe in Houston last week finally losing in overtime. The Titans actually held a lead for most of that game and the Texans came back strong at the end. About 70% of the money is on San Diego right now, and of course, I will have to go the other way.

GREEN BAY -MoneyLine- (-140) over Cincinnati

The Bengals haven’t looked that explosive thus far and they just came off a physical game with the Steelers. In their last 14 games after playing Pittsburgh, they have only covered three times (all by one point, ONE!). These poor bastards now get to face Aaron Rodgers who is coming off one of the best QB’d games in NFL history- I see a lot more of that coming this week. One thing I will say for Cincinnati is that their pass rush could give the Pack some problems but overall Green Bay is a better team. I say go with the moneyline because of the Bengals D.

NEW ORLEANS -6.5 (buy to -6) over Arizona

This is a line that seems a little too good to be true for the underdog. The Saints money line is -336 on this one so it seems like they’re expected to win this one. The Saints defense has been pretty good this year and Larry Fitzgerald’s hamstring injury seems a little more serious than we’re being led to believe. The Saints offense also hasn’t exploded like they’ve been expected to and I expect them to put some serious points on the board this week.

SAN FRANCISCO -9.5 (buy to -9) over Indianapolis

This line might actually come down now that Indy has Trent Richardson but even if it stays at -10 you’ll still want to roll with the Niners. This is going to come down to the Niners D-line against the Colts O-line; the Niners will dominate this matchup…and who knows Andrew Luck better than anyone? Niners coach Jim Harbaugh. Even with Trent Richardson in the lineup, he’ll still have to adapt to a new offense with new terminology and he’ll be a non-factor in this one. The Niners are also going to be fired up after being embarrassed in Seattle. Big day in store for Kaepernick.

MIAMI -3 over Atlanta

I don’t even care about the X’s, O’s and matchups with this one. Trap line to the fullest and 85% of the public has already fallen for it by betting Atlanta.

DOLPHINS 24 Falcons 17

NY Jets -2.5 (buy to -2) over Buffalo

New York is a -2.5 favorite in this one but let’s be honest, when the hell are they ever a favorite? Gotta go with them this week. Rex Ryan is also 6-1 against rookie QBs and they’ve had some extra time to prepare for this one after playing New England last week on Thursday night. This won’t be a pretty game, but it will be at the end if you bet the Jets.

TAMPA BAY +7 over New England

Everything in Tampa seems like it’s about to explode but don’t count these guys out. These guys are a LaVonte David personal foul and Ryan Lindell field goal away from being 2-0; instead they’re 0-2 and have lost two games by a combined three points. The Patriots are everyone’s favorite team to bet as about 70% of the bets so far are on them. The main mismatch in this one is going to be the Pats WRs against Tampa DBs. We saw how much trouble they had against the Jets and I think the same will hold true in this one. I like Tampa coming out on top outright in this one…

PITTSBURGH +2.5 (buy to +3) over Chicago

Again, no X’s and O’s for this one. About 90% of the money is on the Bears and the Steelers are desperate for a victory while Chicago has come from behind successfully in their first two games. Simple case of an 0-2 team not wanting to be 0-3. This will be a very physical battle with a defensive/special teams TD or two sure to happen.
